Winner 2012: Olam International for a strong leadership culture.

We today employ over 17,000 people out of which 690 are part of our Global Assignee Talent Pool (GATP). These GATPs are managers and leaders that we recruit, develop, career path, deploy, reward and motivate on a centralised basis. We invest in developing them by putting them through a common rite-of-passage (including posting in difficult emerging market countries) and providing them certain critical experiences that allows them to imbibe our DNA and culture. Whenever we start a new business or enter a new country, we deploy a critical mass of this senior leadership team to that operation and thereby deploy our unique competencies in those new growth initiatives by deploying our people who carry our DNA. This considerably reduces our execution risk. Our culture is very important and is at the heart of the organisational advantage that we have built over the years. We keep this culture alive by living these values and showing the willingness to have difficult conversations with people not living up to these values.

Special Commendation Prize Recipient: Tata Consultancy Services

This Award from the globally recognised HCLI’s is a significant boost to our morale. The work we do as part of the Affirmative Action Program at TCS is a reflection of the vision of the founders of Tata Group which is about giving back to societies and communities with whom we work. We are proud to be leading this pioneering initiative in the ITES/BPO industry that helps by honing their skills thus creating employment opportunities in the BPO industry. I genuinely appreciate this opportunity to share this practice with other organisations through this forum.
